Character for Dimension Travel Game:
Name: Elijah "Eli" Lovac
Summary: Werewolf P.I.
Background:
- Eli Lovac was a detective in a dimension where things were similar to a pulp detective novel, and he was a good detective with a decent success rate.
- He had solved most of his cases, until he came across a murder case that baffled him. The killer turned out to have been an actual werewolf who had crossed over into his dimension from another. Eli tracked it down and destroyed it, but in the process the curse was passed to him, and he became a werewolf himself.
- Being a werewolf detective has definitely had its perks: The wolf can follow a trail like a bloodhound, hears better, and he doesn't need to worry about that bullet in the night anymore, but it also makes life very difficult. A few months since the case, he has figured out some of the aspects of his condition and manages them, but he is afraid of what he's become. He keeps away from people for fear of the wolf getting out of control and hurting them, or them discovering what he is. He also has a sneaking fear that one day he will only be the wolf, and nothing more.
Abilities
- hard-bit detective: able to take huge amounts of punishment and live (even in human form.) He's been shot many times, beaten up countless times, and is still alive. He can't shrug these things off, they hurt just as much, but they don't finish him off for good.
- As a werewolf, he cannot be killed except by special means (e.g. silver.) It can still be hurt by normal means.
- In Human Form
-- Knows how to use a gun
-- Good at fist-fighting
-- Irresistible to women (and some men) in the style of a pulp detective
-- Very smart: He will always find the answer, in the end
-- Carries a gun, also usually one concealed gun, as well
- In Wolf Form
-- Very fast, esp. on all fours
-- Tracking by scent
-- Extremely sharp senses
-- Large wolf (human sized)
-- Instinct
-- Very dangerous and deadly (bite, claws, etc.)
Personality
- The man is a classic gumshoe: strong & silent type, hard-edged, solitary, extremely cunning at solving cases, and oddly irresistible to women (and some men.)
- The wolf is an animal, but gregarious. It is comfortable around people, though it is a wild animal. It is usually silent, yet oddly eloquent.
Appearance:
- Deep reddish brown hair, light brown eyes almost orange (and strange, somehow.)
- In wolf form, same deep reddish brown fur, luxurious and sleek. Same eyes as the man
Difficulties
- changes to wolf when the conditions are right: These could be a particular planetary alignment, seeing his reflection in a mirror unexpectedly, a sudden blow, a particularly strong emotion, etc.etc. (GM's discretion.) He has learned many of these triggers, but there are more. Being "killed" as a man can often provoke the change.
- The wolf and man share memories and goals (mostly) but think and react differently. One might think of the change and turning inside out. Things the man hides, the wolf will act on. The wolf sees things more simply.
- The smell of fear is extremely irritating to the wolf, and it may act unpredictably.
- Tends to get in a lot of trouble
- Will take cases that may be too much for him, and undergo a lot of physical danger and punishment for the sake of his client
- No close friends, family or long-term attachements. Even before he became a werewolf, Eli has never found it easy to let people get close to him, keeping them at a distance
Additional
- smoker (again, in the style)
